Small Business Finance Guide: Low-Doc Loan Options & Alternative Income Proof
Flexible Business & Home Loan Financing for Self-Employed Australians
Many Australians want to work for themselves, but fewer are taking the leap. According to the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) report ‘Hustling, not hiring: Why fewer Australians are starting a business’, up to 13% of working-age Australians and 47% of secondary school students aspire to own a business.
Despite that, the proportion of business owners in the workforce hit a record low in 2025. The report found that structural barriers such as regulation, limited access to finance and market concentration are what make starting and growing a business difficult in Australia.
Unfortunately, accessing finance can remain challenging even after a business clears the first 12 months of trading. Many traditional lenders require two years of financial statements when considering a business loan, making it difficult for newer businesses to secure the funding they need to grow.
Direct Credit Home Loans takes a different approach. Small businesses and self-employed borrowers may be eligible for low-doc or alt-doc lending. Instead of two years of financial statements, we may only require one of the following:
- Your two most recent lodged BAS statements
- An Accountant’s Income Declaration
- Six months of business bank statements
Are you a small business in need of finance? Direct Credit Home Loans takes a more flexible approach to self-employed borrowers.
